Jesus Came to Earth Died for Sinners and Rose Again

This weekend is one of the virtually recognizable weekends on the agenda each year for Christians with Good Fri existence the commemoration of Jesus' decease on the cross and Easter celebrating his Resurrection the following Sunday morning.

But the question of Jesus' location between His death and resurrection has been a point of argue among some Christians for the last couple millennia.

"I'm non a guy who's going to act like I have all the answers, and this is one that I can't say I definitively know," said Eric Niggling, the lead minister at Skyline Church of Christ in Jackson. "It is an interesting discussion, and we could sit down here all day and discuss and come to different conclusions and both of them be logical and understandable.

"Only at the end of the day, all that really matters is that Jesus died to take away my sin and your sin – all of our sins – and on the first day of the calendar week subsequently that He arose to have victory over death. And He offers that same victory to united states of america at present."

According to the Bible, in Matthew 27:46-50, Jesus died about 3 p.m. on Friday.

"The Jewish calendar and clock at that time suggests that Jesus was crucified at apex and died 3 hours subsequently at 3 p.thou. considering the clock for each mean solar day begins at sunrise or about 6 a.one thousand. for us," said William Watson, pastor of Historic First Baptist Church in Jackson. "Then when the Bible says Jesus was crucified at the sixth hour, that means noon, and He died at the ninth hour, which would exist iii p.chiliad.

"And the way the Jewish agenda falls, each day goes from dawn until sunset. And so when He died on Friday afternoon, early on Lord's day morn is 'the tertiary twenty-four hours' after His death as was prophesied by Jesus Himself."

So there's almost a gap of nigh 36 to 40 hours where Jesus' spiritual location is unknown.

In that location are those that believe Jesus was in Sky during that time. The Scriptural basis for that is in Luke 23:43 when Jesus is quoted telling a thief who was crucified next to Him: "Truly, I say to you, today yous will exist with me in paradise."

But there'southward a passage in i Peter 3 that suggests otherwise.

After explaining Christ died once for the sins of anybody and was raised to life in one Peter 3:18, the following 2 verses say, "in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, considering they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water."

"I looked this up, and even Martin Luther, who started the Protestant Reformation and was knowledgeable of Scripture, he fifty-fifty said in his own commentaries this is the most hard passage in the New Attestation to sympathise because it's non very clear what Peter is trying to say," Lilliputian said. "Y'all read through the chapter and yous encounter 'Christ died for everyone's sins.' OK I go that.

"'He was raised to life in the Spirit.' OK. I'g still with you Peter. And and so he adds in, 'And He went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed God long ago while Noah was building the ark.' And I want to be like, "Hey Peter, can you go back over that once more?' But unfortunately that's not going to happen at this point."

Based on the diction in 1 Peter, in that location's an argument that Jesus spent the weekend between His expiry and Resurrection in Hell preaching to the souls who were already at that place, giving them a chance at the forgiveness available through His sacrifice non previously available before His expiry.

place the resurrection of Jesus Christ

The wording of the text suggests Jesus did that at to the lowest degree for those who drowned in the Alluvion when it rained 40 days and twoscore nights in Genesis 6 while Noah and his family were in the ark.

Watson has his own belief about the passage from Peter.

"I would submit to you that there were people who believed in Christ earlier His incarnation on this earth," Watson said. "We read about how righteousness was accounted unto Abraham, but there was no way to be righteous earlier Christ, so righteousness could be deemed to those people who were on world earlier Christ.

"They believed on Him and His saving power. I think Jesus didn't necessarily preached to those people who were in Sheol or the dark abyss that is being absent from the presence of God forever. Just He preached to those souls who were in a prison but had believed in Him before He came to earth and lived equally a human being and told them, 'Y'all lived with organized religion in Me, and you lot're about to come across what you believed I would exercise happen.'"

Both Petty and Watson had similar views about anyone asking the question or any question related to Scripture.

"If someone is asking that question, information technology's not a bad thing," Watson said. "God said in His word, 'Seek Me and you will notice Me.'

"He lowered Himself lower than us so He could elevator us upwards, and because He came downwards to our level, we can expect for Him and He volition reveal Himself to us."

"Discussions like this are expert because the first thing God wants from us is for united states to wait for Him," Petty said. "And if ii of us or a grouping of u.s.a. may disagree on something like this, only we hash out logical, Scripturally-based reasons for what we believe, that can only be a good affair.

"The master matter is to believe in the facts that Jesus came to earth, lived perfectly, died for our sins, rose once more, ascended to Heaven and will return to earth to accept His followers to Sky with Him. And that's why we even gloat the Resurrection."
